ok, so, for the record, right up front I am not affiliated with Amazon or Dometic....Since getting to my (or most any of your) propane tanks just to take them out to see how heavy they are is a PITA... I decided to try this, and son of a gun if it doesn't actually work.Dometic LP Tank Level CheckerThis thing works through some form of ultrasound. Hold it up to the tank, push on it, and the tip of it turns red or green to show whether there is or is not liquid gas at the level you checked it at. Just keep narrowing down where you check on the tank till you get a good idea of where the level is.

I been using one of these for around 2 years now. Only tip is put your other hand on top of tank (just hold top metal). Seems to make it flawless.

There is a nice one made by Truma, a little bit pricier, but accurate. The you can always pour hot water over the tank and do it the old fashioned way....
