Pros/Cons Chevy vs. Ford 1 Ton Diesel 4x4

I personally think its all the luck of the draw. Both are good brands and each can have its problems. But sometimes they will just have problems.

If you have to make choices from slightly used vehicles, then you have to consider the original units. Some trucks are set up to pull, and some are set up to carry. Both are very capable of carrying your camper, but you should know various gear ratios and tire combinations.

A one ton truck can be set up to pull a huge amount of weight, or it can be set up to cruise near empty and get better mileage.

So your planning diesel.
My vote goes for the 16 years and running Dmax/Alli combo. But that's me and I had an early Dmax that was the best truck I've had to date.
One con of the GM I am think of but not verify is the bed frame is radiused at the rear which screws up some TCs fitting and supposedly the bed has a crown front to back as well.
Along the same line, and maybe the '17 model new super duties are different,but same type of radius support at the front of the bed screwed up mounting a wide slip tank in the front of my F250. Ate into the clear width of the bed at the bottom and I had to raise the tank a couple inches and run the mounting bolts thru that radiused area.

Just have to wonder why you are not considering a RAM?

Please at least take one for a test drive, you might be surprised.

Which one fits your butt better? That's the one to buy.

Between the two I'd take the Ford although there were some things I didn't like when I was shopping (CP4, flexy chassis and cheap looking interior in the lower trim levels). But on the plus side you fantastic power delivery, a proven truck platform and the best tow mirrors available.

My negatives on the GM trucks were the CP4 pump, the IFS setup and the vulnerable DEF tank location. Of the three it was my third choice but I'm nitpicking a bit here cause they're all good trucks.

We travel with good friends, similar size and weight 5ers. They have a '15 Super Duty Dually, we have an '11 Chevy Dually. We'll fuel up together and generally we'll be within a few tens of a gallon on a fill up.
So as suggested which ever one you can get the best deal on and fits your butt.

Ford crew cabs seem to have a little more room, but the regular cabs feel about the same. Drive and see which one fits your comfort level. If you are looking used, be cautious of the 6.0 Powerstroke. I have one and know, first hand, the money pit they can be.

Both have CP4 pumps GM fixes under warranty. No guarantee with the Ford, some have been denied.

Seriously have an open mind and check out the RAM's. You may be very surprised.

Well, if you wait a bit, you can probably get the Ford on an excellent discount. 2017's are almost here and they have an all new body style (again this only applies to Ford).

However, both vehicles have an exhaust brake setup. Both have robust transmissions. The Chevy has a box'd frame, which will have less flex while the 2016 Ford still has a C-channel. The Chevy will be more rigid frame-wise while the Ford will have more flex. I would personally be torn between the two, but I do give the nudge towards Ford because the ergonomics in the cab fit me better. But then I prefer a rigid chassis since frame flex can be an issue in some forest roads I like to drive on. If this was the 2017 Ford vs. 2016 Chevy, then Ford easily. The 2017 has a box'd chassis that resolves my only real complaint on the Ford (aside from the CP4 pump on both those trucks).
