Protecting Front Cap Paint and Decals from Fading

I have been reading both here and on other forums about the paint and decals on front caps of both campers and trailers fading and oxidizing. Has anyone ever tried to have the clear 3M protectant installed on a camper before? I have a new AF811 and am considering having it done to the front cap on mine. The only problem that I can see is that part of the decal is raised up to create a 3D look. I'm sure that it could be installed around the raised part. Just curious for some feedback and thoughts.

  • I think you need a cover to protect it or keep it out of the sun.
  • My AF811 is reaching 6 years old and has never had any oxidation/fading problems on the nose.
That graphics on the front aren't perfect though. They started to fade after about a year and that's as bad as they have gotten.
  • Does the 3M stuff have any UV protection built in? If not you will still end up with an oxidized front cap to deal with. Go buy the best RV/Marine or aircraft wax you can find. Wax it thoroughly and often, and it will look as good the day you sell it as the day you bought it.
  • I thought about doing the same thing to my AF1150 but it was primarily for stone protection on upcoming trip to Alaska. I have the 3M film on front of Harley fairing and it works great but it doesn't have the raised vinyl decals like our campers. I decided to not worry so much about the stone issue and I use 303 protectant on entire TC including decals for oxidation/fading protection since it contains UV protectant. I put a coat on every 4-6 weeks last summer.
