I have the four speed, 5.4 L, and 4.10 rear, and I tow about 7800- 8200 lbs , and I can tell you in rolling hills and mountains, I run in low 2 (second) quite a bit at 4000-5000 Rpms. Does fine on the flats and can run OD with small rolling hills, but the first decent hill or on ramp lets me wanting more power all the time. Next truck will have more engine and payload. I'm maxed out at 15300 combined weight rating. Handles and breaks great, but power? Needs more. Took it out west in 08 for a month and it was enough, but JUST enough. Altitude really saps it.
Thanks moss eater. You have the Avalanche or other chev? If not, what year and make of truck are you pulling with?
Oh, sorry, no, not an Avalanche. Is truck in sig pic, 07 Ford F 150. My point was, 300 hp, 4.10 rear and 4 spd prolly isn't going to be much different with the Avalanche. I have 2200lb payload, and leaf spring rear, and a bunch more wheelbase. Conjecture says the Avalanche prolly isn't going to like pulling that trailer. I'm maxed out power-wise, and the Avalanches shorter wheelbase isn't going to help your equation. Just a thought. Best wishes!
