This is only a guess, but I would go with a bad timing chain/tensioners/cam phasers. This is such a big problem there are companies that address the problem with kits and some that offer a phaser eliminator kit. My buddies dad had an 05 that needed phasers at 50k miles and again at 100k. And he was religious with 3k mile oil changes!
I've personally had to replace a motor because the owner let it go so long the that the valves were hitting the pistons.
Not to mention the whole spark plug replacement issue. The 3 valves don't spit spark plugs, they refuse to come out of the cylinder head when you want to change them. And here again there is a kit offered to remove the broken part of the plug from the head. There is an entire industry that sprang up around the the Triton 3valve motors.
This is not a motor you own if you are not mechanically inclined! I would never own one.
