LOL, we live in the flats. The nearest grade is 30 miles away in a river valley. I agree though, the diesel would have a significant advantage in the grade speed holding - that's where that extra (almost double) torque would shine.
Each held speed easily even with the wind. The Hemi just used more RPM and fuel doing so.
