3.23 to 1.84 is a big jump, looked like around a 2000 RPM drop when it shifted so no wonder it bogged a bit. 1st is a low, get it moving gear and 2nd on up are the normal driving ratios. Probably better suited to the diesels bigger, fatter low RPM torque curve as well. These 6 speeds are really 4 speeds with double overdrives so their ratios aren't that close and these trucks aren't set up for WOT 0-60 runs. You will never see OD on a WOT 0-60 run in any vehicle and the hemi never even got out of second.
I can't WAIT till they put an 8 speed into the heavy duty Rams. The 8HP70 should be strong enough, but if not, the 8HP90 from the Hellcat (likely the same unit from Rolls, BMW, and upcoming Z06) should be more than enough.
Given the 66RE's ratios, I strongly recommend a 4.10. It won't help with the ratio gaps, but it'll reduce the time from standstill till 1st gear redline.
6.4 with the 8 speed should edge out the ISB at sea level, and be neck to neck with it at mid level elevations (2 - 3000 feet).
