Ram 2500 Payload
Greetings all; It's been a while since I have been out on the forum....but I do have a new issue which I would like to get some advice on. I have a pretty new RAM 2500 Diesel, automatic, 4X4, sh...

DRY weight 14,100#
DRY pin 3100# (based on dry weight)
GVWR 16,000#
Get your deposit back......nothing you can to that 2500 to make it 'carry' the actual pin weight of that overweight TH
14,000# MAX is what your truck is capable to 'carry' w/o exceeding RAWR
But you would still be over trucks GVWR/Payload
Sorry...just a little to heavy of a 5th wheel/TH
Hi,
I think the online specs for the trailer are incorrect. When we looked at it in person I did check the GVWR on the sticker...it was 14K.. Dealer told me that the empty weight was around 12.5K which would make sense. VL evidently installs 8K axles on some models and 7K axles on others hence the 14K vs 16K GVWR ratings. Again, my truck, per the RAM site will tow max of 17.1K with a bed payload of 2450#
Based upon all this, my big concern is the pin weight. I have no physical way of verifying their 3100# number...unfortunately...it is possible that the online number could be incorrect as well..
I've towed fifth wheels before, including some pretty heavy ones, but always had a 350/3500 dually... and I agree with all the comments on ease of towing, stability, etc.. For a number of reasons the current truck needs to be SRW and short bed.
I ordered a set of air bags for the rear which I will install once we get back to NJ and we will see how it goes.. Worst case, (as much as I would hate to do it) we will upgrade the truck to a 3500 SRW...
Thanks to all for all the input...lots of food for thought!!
You guys are the best!!!
