ram 3500 oil change

2015 Ram 3500 diesel has 4800 miles 7 months new.
dealer said I need to do oil change now.
2nd dealer says not yet, when should I
computer says 62 left
  • thanks coolbreeze, it was built in 2014 so I will change.
saw someone say synthetic. I always used in on my 5.3. do I need to on the diesel. didn't know they made it. might as well change fuel filters also. can I do it or should I let the dealer.
  • Also get the good filters. Stratopore oil filter and the 3 micro nanopore fuel filter. I bought a pack on amazon which had the chassis and engine fuel filters. About $100.00 I have bought from Genos Garage but saved a little on amazon this time. Genos may be able to compete if you look at their multi filter packs.
  • Oil is the life blood of an engine.
    Air filters the lungs
    Fuel the protein

I change oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter at 5000 miles when we FTd

Now I do it at 7500 miles

    In the long run.....Cheap Ins.
  • I think I had the first change at 6,800. The original oil is syn in order to meet the cold weather starting warning so pay attention to what you are getting if you take it to the dealer. I had mine done in Florida and the dealer used Shell triple T and I continue to use it but I'm never in the cold conditions that call for syn. Genos garage has an oil comparison write up on it with sample testing, not opinions.
  • The build date of your truck will give you an idea of how old your engine oil really is.

    I'd change it.
  • only have 120 hrs, but is 7 months. it is garaged most of time.
we will start a 3000 mile trip in 6 weeks.
  • Per your manual, change it at the earliest of 6 months, 15k miles of 500 hours. For most people 6 months will be the trigger.
  • On our '14, manual says to change it by the oil change indicator, or every 6 months whichever comes first. We change ours every December & June.
  • Some people like dumping the factory fill early, some do not.
    It's up to you.
