thanks coolbreeze, it was built in 2014 so I will change.
saw someone say synthetic. I always used in on my 5.3. do I need to on the diesel. didn't know they made it. might as well change fuel filters also. can I do it or should I let the dealer.
You don't have to use synthetic but it all depends on the type of weather you anticipate. Your manual will have an oil recommendation chart that will show an arrow for 15W40 at 0*F and above then has an arrow for 5W40 going to infinity above and below 0*F.
My takeaway is you can use 5W40 in any temperature. By the way, synthetic is only option for 5W40 diesel oil. If you live in a warmer climate and don't ever anticipate seeing temps below 0*F, then it's perfectly safe to use conventional 15W40 oil in your truck.
Since we ocassionally see 0*F and below here in Illinois I opted to got with Rotella T6 5W40 synthetic oil. It costs more than conventional oil, but I'm only changing it twice a year so I'm not too concerned about the price.
