- IdaDExplorerThey're both good transmissions. The Aisin is better for heavy towing with the lower first couple of gears, and it's a heavier transmission. The biggest downside is it has much more frequent service requirements.

I am at my last day of MayMadness TDR Regional Rally in Pahrump, NV where we had two Chrysler reps and one retired one. The retired one was the western head of warranty repairs for Chrysler. To quote him regarding the Aisin "they don't break". The only failures they see are in the Medium duty trucks where they at times are abused by people that don't give a &#*@ about how they drive them.
BD Diesel performance was at the Rally, To prove that the Aisin does not break the Sales Rep Harold said they don't even offer anything for the Aisin Transmission. They do for all the Allison, Ford and Chrysler transmissions.
I tow 32,500# combined with the Aisin and 4.10's I can start off on a fairly steep grade with just pushing the go pedal with no grunting or groaning it just moves the load!
We had a dyno event on Thursday in LasVegas and the 2500 trucks with 370 hp posted the same HP as the trucks with 385 HP. RWHP was in the low 350 range, that is VERY impressive numbers! So Honestly I don't know if the extra HP and TQ are that much difference. The drivability and dependability of the Aisin is WELL worth the investment!!!
I don't agree with rams marketing arm:
1. Yes aisin's do fail.
2. Some aisin owners have complained for shifting quality (one recently on this sight), but as the marketing arm has stated "they shift like a built transmission".
3. Your not going to measure a 15hp difference at the engine crank on a dyno that measures hp at the rear wheels.
I won't waste my time on the 68 but if I were purchasing a ram it would be with the aisin.
I don't think you have to worry about the 68 or Aisin , you are like many on here, you have plenty to say about something you are never going to own or worry about. You should leave that to who actually owns one. We will see how many miles my 68 will go ,along with your HPFP . I don't think either one of us is going to lose sleep over it. Cummins12V98 wrote:

Of course they say it does not break, but the forums say different. What do you expect coming from a employee.
I have to believe what you are saying, but I am only towing between 13-14K , and I experience the same drivability as you, with a $2600 less INVESTMENT. TIME will tell.
If I was going to tow often, and heavy, and keep the truck for the long run then the Aisin makes sense.
For the majority that use them to commute, or grocery getters, which they are not made for, its foolish to spend the extra. Spend the extra for diesel to go to the grocery store.
As said we can all compare in a few years, and see how that $2600 investment is or is not working out.
I have no regret about not getting the Aisin , its all the recalls that give me doubt. - BedlamModeratorA couple more downsides: The HD Aisin is physically heavier and requires more frequent service than the 68RFE.

Does the 68 have the little +- thing on the shifter as well that lets you lock out what gear you want to be in? I love my Aisin with 3.73s.

In SRW truck they're rated to tow the same.
Another benefit is you get the HO motor with the Aisin. 385 HP, 900 FTLB!!
I love the Aisin.
Actually the Aisin have a 150 less towing capacity based on the heavier transmission.
I love my Aisin.

You can only hope seeing the benefits of towing a 13K fifth wheel for the additional $2600 . Like to see how that works out for you in the long run. We can compare here in five or six years, and see if that Aisin has paid you back, compared to my 68RFE for $2600 less.
IMO more bite on the Aisin , and the $2600 extra, then necessary. In Cummins12V98 own words, towing heavy with the 68RFE, and 3:42 gears with X amount of miles with no issues. Yes ,and we all should know by now that was his previous Ram truck. :) - Me_AgainExplorer III
