Exactly what I am saying as well. While I would not want to tow the 17k that it is rated for, I would not hesitate to go over its 2k lb payload. I have done it many times. The truck handled it safely and was very stable every time. The back end wasn't squatting in the rear either. I am not saying the 2500's rear suspension can handle the 4k payload that the 3500 equivalent of my truck is rated to handle, but I am not afraid to put at least 3k in the back which is still well under my rear GAWR.
