Real world storage

Just curious as to which shortbed model has the most storage? I know it seems an oxymoron but can't get a real idea from the web. I also will have a trailer but won't always be traveling with it.

  • Not a lot of outside storage on Af860/811. 2 compartments but no drawer under the floor.
Tons of inside storage though. Especially with the full cabinets on one side option in the cabover.
I pretty much can't make a dry camping trip without a hitch rack or putting a bunch of stuff on the floor, roof or back seat of truck. None of the outside storages are big enough for a generator, bbq or chairs.
  • Many "short bed" campers are just long bed campers with extra cabinets attached to compensate for the short bed. The biggest factor with how much storage you have will have to do with how much rear overhang you want.

    That is a good question.
Some short bed models, with wings, actually have very good storage.

Both of our SB TC's had wings and large storage compartments. The challenge is, while some have "large" compartments the doors are very small, so you can't get anything big in to the compartment (grills, leveling, blocks, etc).
Our new EC has large compartments with large doors. We can fit a grill and a Honda 2K in one of the compartments...it is huge. The EC also has an 8' lg draw that slides into the basement which is very handy; fishing rods in summer, skis in winter, and a couple of folding bag chairs reside in the all year.

I guess my advice is; while many SB campers have good storage, pay attention to how easy it is to access it.

Good point hadn't thought about access to the storage...

Our 1st SB TC was and Adventurer, it had wings and good storage. Our new SB TC is an Eagle Cap with wings and pretty much the same SIZE compartments but with even larger doors. Which makes the storage more useful.
We looked at another brand when we were shopping that had about same SIZE storage, but the doors were so tiny the space was not very useful.

You learn a lot with your 1st TC.
