I had my 2006 RAM in my sig in for the air bag recall. When I went to pick it up, 3 mechanics met me and asked if I were interested in selling it. I asked how much they'd give me, they asked what did I pay for it. I told 'em $32,000 and they said SOLD! Then the bidding started. I whoa'd 'em and asked what a new one cost. Well, that ended that! Who in their right mind would spend $60,000+ for a brand new truck?!! My first house, in California yet, was less than $50,000. Ha!
I'm sure glad I bought that truck when I did. It will be my last truck I ever buy barring any catastrophic event.
Well that was silly. If you got them up to 35k you could have bought a brand new one for less than $10k out of pocket. Manual or auto.
Guessing this is just a story, because no one in their right mind would walk away from mid 30s for a 12 year old quad cab truck, unless that is you have another 10-20k sunk into mods or something.
Not around my neck of the woods would I find the same equipped new RAM truck for only $10K more than I paid 12 years ago. It's more like double the price; $70,000 from the stickers I've seen around here.
There is absolutely nothing a new model truck has that I would spend $10K plus my trade in for. In 12 years, the only thing that I've had to replace is a water pump for $50 from AutoZone. That was maybe 6 years ago. Far as I can tell, the last good year RAM's were 2006 built in the Saltillo, Mexico plant. Environmentalists stuck their noses into truck manufacturing and everything's been a compromise since.
****EDIT****
Checked NADA website and a similarly equipped truck MSRP is 68,600 and Invoice is $63,600. Now add the tax, registration, etc and... yeah, I'll keep my truck.
