Show me where the excellent condition ‘95 F350 dually 7.3s for $10k are, I’ll buy ten of them and make myself a lot of money, and keep one for myself!
It’s all about condition. If you really fully freshen up a ‘90s model, the diffs, trans, engine, etc. I believe you’ll have greater reliability than a new one, because simplicity IS reliability.
Even though I don’t drive it much anymore, I’ve kept my ‘86 GMC crew cab dually 4x4, 454/4-speed because it’s the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever had. It’s got very heavy duty parts and ZERO electronics. I’d much rather be 2000 miles from home in that than in any late model.
I can replace the entire engine for less than a set of injectors on a common-rail diesel. And it’s easier to do.
Talk the me about those reliable later models when they’re 34 years old... and we’ll see how reliable they really are!
By the way, that truck hauls a 4500 pound camper while towing a 10,000 pound trailer, sits level and drives nice, with ZERO modifications. No Helwigs, Stable-loads, airbags, none of it.
