Reliability of new 2015 6.7 powerstroke or Cummins Diesel

Just Wondering what the reliability of newer diesels are as I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a new or slightly used truck Ford or Dodge. My old 95 runs good 7.3 diesel but you are always wondering if it is going to break down 2000 miles from home then the cost could be just too much to sink into it and cost to bring it home is also a lot. Still out on buying maybe gas but I do like the way a diesel just goes up and down hills with literally no downshifting so diesel has been what I have been looking at so far.

  • We have had three Ram CTD. 1994, 2004 and 2017. None have left on the side of the road or given us a reason to switch platforms. Our current Ram makes more power than I need with our camper and towing our jeep. I'm ok with that. :)

We are considering our 4th Ram diesel currently for increased payload.

I drove Fords for years in construction.
  • I have a 2011 F350 with the 6.7 under the hood. I bought it used with 89K on it. Its now at 125K It came with a Turbo Bed Plate oil leak. Had that fixed. Other known issue is the Bosch High Pressure fuel pump. Ford used and older model pump that is not the most durable. If it grenades you are looking at $12-16k in repairs as they have to tear the injectors and fuel system out. We are not waiting for that to happen. The Fuel Pump is $7-900 plus labor. I am getting it done this month. Other than that the engine is a beast. I love it
