removing tub/shower to make storage

We have a 16 ft Wolf pup travel trailer. When we camp we do not use our shower or tub and we are thinking of removing both and making that area another area for storage. Has anyone ever done this and whats under the tub? Will we be ok to take it out and just cap off the water to the tub and shower?
  • I would think you will be ruining your chances and value if you decide to trade it in or sell it down the line. We use our tub/shower all the time as I do not like having to walk up to the bath/showers at our RV park (although they are very nice and cleaned twice a day). If you do not use them, I would just get a big rubber bath mat and put in there and then use it for storage of big things or the laundry hamper. I would just buy a couple plastic totes or even put in the plastic trash cans and use for storage. I would not even consider looking at a trailer or RV of any kind without a shower. We just had friends also who took out their sofa and replaced with 2 recliners. When it came time to trade it in, they had to replace those again with another sofa bed. Very expensive.
  • I built shelves in the tub area of my trailer without removing the tub. I framed and supported the shelves with 1 by 2's and used pressboard for the shelving. The area is inclosed enough that I was able to build the shelves without putting any screws into the walls. The bottom shelf lifts up to get to items in the tub. (We stuck a small hamper there for dirty clothes.). We use the two shelves for suitcases/gym bags. I also made a little shoe tree on one side that'll fit 4-6 pairs of shoes.

    I would agree.

  • I rarely use my tub in the Colby T for bathing, but there are those times when I need it for something or other, like that time when they closed the bath house down due to a water leak. I currently use it to store my pressure cooker, vacuum, box fan, antifreeze bottles, bleach bottle, spare ice chest, and all toilet supplies (tissue and chemicals). Even with all this stuff in there, I can empty it for use in less than five minutes. I wouldn't get rid of my tub.
  • We rarely use ours also. For longer trips, we put one of those free standing wire shelf things in the tub. Gives us about five shelves that are almost two feet wide to put cloths and pantry items on. Works pretty good. Cheap and easy as well.

But, removing the tub should be easy. Likely, you'll find plywood under the tub. And the same behind the molded walls. It wouldn't be too difficult to remove the tub and walls and put down vinyl flooring and wall paper or something to make it look decent. Then add whatever shelves you want.

yep, that sez it all. I looked at a used B van once and the owner had made plywood sections that fit over the tub and put rarely used items below it and other things handy on top.
