Repairing water damaged floor

I recall reading some very detailed threads about repairing a water logged floor in an RV. Now I need to do it in my own, I have quite a mess in and beside the bathroom. I have been having difficulty locating the old threads. I seem to recall information on treating and sealing the affected floor that cannot be removed reasonably. Do any of you recall these methods or offer any further advice?
  • I don't know if I saw it on this forum or another, but i read using a marine epoxy works great.
For me, we had a old PUP that had a small spot that was tough to get at. I sprayed it several times with bleach then after it was dried my husband put several layers of polyurethane on it and the surrounding area.
Seems to have worked but I'm sure many would not recommend it

  • Once you dry the wood out, Min-Wax makes a wood hardener product that you can use. I am sure there are others. After you put the hardener on as recommended, providing there is enough structurally stability in most of the floor, I would simply put a plywood floor over the existing floor. Then I would put down peel and stick carpet or vinyl tile as you prefer. Quarter round along the edges and it should be good as new. If there is zero structurally stability left in the existing floor, all bets are off.
  • I did some research today on the Min-Wax product and spoke to a friend that mentioned it as well. it sounds like a good plan. I'm still at the tearing-out stage now. I had planned to work on this in the fall, but health issues interfered. Hopefully I can wrap it up and still get some camping in this summer.
  • I used the Minwax product and actually found something a little better. West Marine has a penetrating epoxy. Works quite well. I mentioned it to our RV dealer service dept. and they are using it for soft spots. Worth a look. I have learned for repairs, boat/marine supplies are better than rv repair items.

  • A little off topic, but related in a way. I noticed a 2" wide x 10" long x 1/4" tall bubble in the linoleum right in front of the kitchen sink of our 2007 Jayco 23B. I inspected the underside of the floor and could not detect any softness or structural issues of any kind. I don't see any water damage or evidence of a leak under the sink either. So I'm thinking and hoping that it's simply the adhesive loosening up on the linoleum.

Anyone else have a similar issue? What was done about it? I'm thinking about just covering it up with a throw rug.

    Thanks.

I have not seen any adhesive under the linoleum that I have removed so far, I also have a ripple like you described near the stove. There is no discoloration there Like I have where the moisture is, so I am assuming the the vinyl flooring has stretched in that area. I'm not sure at this point how much of the flooring I will be replacing, so I may not look under that spot right away.
