replacing freshwater tank drain cock

i have a 2008 keystone springdale 267bhssr TT. It has a 60 gal freshwater tank. The drain cock for it is located on the bottom of the tank and the lever broke off; it's a plastic valve. I can gently turn it open with pliers right now, but need to replace it. I am fairly sure that it is threaded, as it doesn't appear to have a flange or needing a barbed end as there is no hose that would be going to it. Seeing as my dealer is two hours away, i am more than capable to do the repair, but don't want to do anything detrimental to the water tank. Would this valve be threaded and just need to loosened and turned out and a new on wrapped in teflon and screwed back into place? or would the one there be put in place with silicone? i'm thinking this job is easier than i am making it out to be, just that where i live, we are limited to supplies or resources. any input would be appreciated. just want reassurance that this is how to replace this valve.

It is threaded but be careful that you have an exact size replacement for it. I had the same thing happened and attempted to thread a brass fitting into mine and all seemed well at first but later the port split wide open. I may have over tightened it but I am not sure.
Yeah, brass should be better than the cheap plastic stuff, right? The issue is not so much with thread size but the casting of the brass. Starting about 15 years ago, I was having problems with sink hardware. I've since found it is about the quality of the brass in the casting process. Anything cast in India or China is treated like glass when I handle it. Not your fault, it is the times.

  • I had my trailer for 3 months before I realized my new trailer did not have a plug. You should be able to find one at a local hardware store. They are threaded and I simply installed it using teflon tape. Just don't over tighten it.
