Replacing Lance TC Connector
Getting ready to pick up the Lance 880 I just purchased. My truck was set up by the original owner to tow a 5er and is equipped with a Pollack 9 pin round connector like this:
9 pin round connector
On my earlier Lance 981 that I used on this truck the dealer made a pigtail that adapted the Lance plug on the TC to the 9 pin round. Unfortunately I forgot to salvage this when I sold the camper so it's long gone. I just priced the Lance socket to make a new one and it's ridiculously expensive, at least from a local RV store. It's a bit cheaper online but still overpriced.
It's main "advantage" over a standard 7 pin blade RV connector seems to be the ability to have two 8 ga wires so that adequate current can be supplied from the TV to the camper for the 3 way reefer to run on battery while traveling. The connector in my truck bed also has this same ability so I can't see much of a down side in replacing the Lance connector as long as I save it so it can be reinstalled if (when) I sell the TC.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.
Joe
