Replacing that big rubber seal on a slide out

How much fun is involved in replacing the large rubber seal/flap that seals your slide when it's open?

I just noticed today at the top of one of those it's beginning to tear. It has about 2" at the top that have started to come apart.

Interesting. The thought of maybe using a vulcanizing liquid and a patch piece cut from a rubber bicycle tube came to mind.

  • I need to use my camper more!
Only thing worn out in 13 years is the batteries and the asphalt where the jacks sit!
  • For me, the hardest part was taking the old seals off. Putting new ones on was a snap.
  • Not bad.

For the future, lubricate it with baby powder. This provides some ability to allow the rubber to remain pliable and not stick, the cause of most tears. Once or twice a year is all you need.
