Gmcsmoke, most of us here on the forum join to learn more about the RV lifestyle, not to be criticized for what we don't now. Not everyone is familiar with diesel trucks just because you are. It's not a matter of living under a rock, but ducking the rocks thrown your way. A day will come when you won't know the answer to something and we will find you here asking that question.
Some of us don't get involved in every bit of madness that transpires around us, LOL.
I, too, bought a 15yr old diesel and avoided all the EPA garbage ;) - LearjetExplorer

I agree...but...Google works great for simple questions :) - Road_PhantomExplorer IIGmcsmoke, most of us here on the forum join to learn more about the RV lifestyle, not to be criticized for what we don't now. The scientist are starting to think the disappearing bee population "may" be a result of DEF usage.
Only a theory for now but the timing kinda fits?
If true, "The Law Of Unintended Consequences" strikes again!
Of course, one could always do what I did:
Buy a "low mileage" (170,000) 1999 truck. It worked for me! - lawnspecialtiesExplorer

- burningmanExplorer IIOn new diesel emissions systems we seem to be about where we were in the late '70s with all the garbage on gas engines that succeeded mostly in making them expensive to service and run worse.

I heard all new diesel engines require some kind of additive and that the manufacturers have to include some sort of gizmo that sprays it into the cylinders for compliance with the EPA. I'd like to know a little more about this slight inconvenience and whether or not its true. Thanks.
DEF is an after treatment, it is not sprayed into the cylinders rather the exhaust. All DEF is used downstream of the engine. The cost is trivial on a per mile basis and DEF is available most anywhere diesel is sold, truck stops, NAPA, WallMart, etc. - RedwoodcamperExplorerMost new diesels have a def tank that you have to fill every so often. A significant percentage of diesel owners don't appreciate the epa's regulating and remove the need for def. Either way it isn't a big expense. If you haven't driven or owned a newer diesel, don't judge them by the diesels you rode in 20yrs ago.
