Road trip and two blow outs on Goodyear Marathons

With a tandem axle trailer, it's impossible to tell from the driver's seat that you have a trailer tire slowly going flat. By the time you figure it out, the tire has lost all pressure, and been torn to shreds. A lot of so-called exploding tires are simply tires that ran flat due to a road hazard, IMHO.

That's not to say quality control on some brands is not woefully inadequate, and responsible for some failures, but all these tires aren't just self destructing.
