RV living.

Hi to all.
Not sure if this is the place for this post but here goes.
We are in Fl.now but April 1st we are moving to a year round campground in north New Jersey and rent a rv.
I'm sure we are gonna love it. They say when we get there. Pick out a tt we want . Pick the lot we want and they will put on that lot. They will put a nice deck and shed on the lot too. $625.00 a month includes everything. We may stay year round. They also sell the used tt's.
We have camped many times before and loved it. We are 67 & 66 and retired.
We are really looking forward to it.
Also this is a awesome forum full of great info and wonderful people.
Enough for now.
God Bless y'all.

  • Welcome. Before you jump into that deal, I'd recommend that you find a way to stay in a travel trailer in cold weather for a couple of days, just to see what it's like. RVs are not well insulated, so you will feel the cold drafts and the furnace will run half the time (or more). When the furnace goes off, the temp swing will be much greater than what you'd experience in a house or apartment. In other words, it can be quite uncomfortable. And the furnace is noisy as all get-out!

If you want to feel like you're in a trailer but you don't plan to move it, why not look for a mobile home park? A single-wide mobile home will be much less drafty and better insulated, and rent price might be pretty similar to what you're looking at. You might even be able to locate and buy a used mobile home for $3000-$5000, and then just rent the lot.

I can understand how you feel about returning to old stompin' ground. I feel the same way about the state I grew up in (Michigan) and try to get back there every summer for a visit. (Not that I'd want to visit in winter, though! Brrr.)

When ya live on SSI a fellow can only do so much. Cant afford to travel.
Have you calculated your propane expense per month? Have you lived in a TT in below zero temps? Let's hope your not planning on having petroleum based heaters to compensate. Have you researched alternatives? God can bless you, but he leaves keeping warm/alive up to you.

You might as well rent an apartment. It will be bigger, retain heat better, and since you will not be moving anyway, will be more comfortable. That is not what RVing is about.

Except renting an apartment in northern NJ will likely cost about $1000 more than his $650 rent.

Although propane costs may eat way into his budget anyway.

Good Luck to the OP. The worst case scenario is they don't like it and find something else. They won't know until they try.

I know I wouldn't want to do it. Pipes have been freezing left and right INSIDE buildings this past week. Plus, I don't see the shower or bathrooms being up and running when it's as cold as it's been lately. Even a mild winter in that area will have a couple of deep freezes and significant snowfalls.
