Scan Guage

Here's a recent thread on the topic. I use a Bluetooth adapter and my smartphone. Don't know about diesels.

I use Scan Gauge II on my 7.3L diesel. Can be set to monitor almost anything you eant. However you may get readings that are normal that may cause you to worry because you didn't know about before.

I would look at the app called Torque Pro. It reads codes as well as live data and show your choice of gauges.

We just bought one for ours so we can watch the tranny temp as we partially covered the grill. Haven't tried it yet as the motorhome is up North and we are down South. Currently using it on the smart car for fun. On the brighter side according to the scan gauge my around town gas mileage (technically diesel mileage) is 53 mpg. :) Kinda knew that already but its fun to watch numbers. Think they'll drop a bit on the motorhome. :)

I`m using my I phone and the Dash Command APP from I tunes. I believe with other phones it the Torque APP, similar to Dash Command. I really like all the parameters it gives. it also lets you erase codes even performance numbers and such!

I have a 06/f350. Installed a scan gauge2 , I like it.
I have it set for oil temp,water temp,tach and voltage. You can reprogram this as you like. There are lots of other stuff you can monitor. I believe to monitor EGT, you need to buy a probe and have to drill the exhaust pipe. Others may know more about this, or go onto scan gauge's web site and search for what you need. I know with the 6.0, water temp and oil temp are critical.

I have an edge insight CTS. You can monitor up to 10 points at the same time and set it up to alarm at specific points. For the EGT you will have to drill and tap the exhaust manifold. Other than that it just plugs into the OBD port under the dash.

I had one on my 6.0 and it saved my motor. Was able to see the large difference in deltas with my oil and water temps, shot up to 45° spread. I had mine set for water temp, oil temp, FICM voltage and tranny temp. Great investment for $120. Check out there website for all of the codes for the 6.0. Good luck.

I use the SG2 to monitor FICM output voltage, High pressure oil to the injectors, Transmission oil temperature and Engine oil temperature on my 2005 6.0 PSD.

X2. On my vehicle you don't need to drill anything. It will give you post DOC EGT, post Nox EGT and post DPF EGT from the OBD2 port. It is truly plug and play. You can set lots of user defined alarms so you don't really have to watch them. If something happens outside your defined parameters you will hear about it. I have the Torque Pro and it's good, but it will not do transmission temps on mine. I called Scan Gauge and they could not do transmission temps on my 2008 Dodge CTD either. You can get the Edge Insight CS with smaller screen for about $299 or the larger screen for about $399. Take a look HERE. I like it.
