Seasonal rv site

We are first time seasonal campers and will probably use for weekends or long weekends. What utilities do you leave on- I was thinking of the electric for the refrigerator. We have been bringing in the slide out also at the end of the weekend. Any other tips anyone can give us would be appreciated.
Thanks

Been dong this 8 years; turn off the water, turn off the hot water heater, leave the roof vents open, put the fridge on 'auto'.

Every 4-5 weeks I pull the slides in to exercise the system and help keep the seals flexible. Likely not necessary but it is something that I have always done.
  • We turn off the water and water heater nothing more. The slides go out in April and close in October
  • For my previous seasonal site:
    - Electrical ON -> with fridge on electric mode.
Note: I installed electric Surge Protection as well.
    - Hot Water tank Off
    - Water flow Off
    - both Septic Valves closed.
    - LP Gas Off -> since fridge was on electric only.
    - roof vent open 1/4 -> to allow natural venting
    - furnace &/or AC set to Off.
    - 12 Volt turned off (via manual switch).
    - Side's Slide left Out. (only bring slide in at fall / for winter storage).
    - Side's large Awning Out (material kept tight and supported by both horizontal and vertical posts). re: - click here -

To eliminate slide roof damage, I created a hard cover for our large slide. re: - click here -

This worked great for my previous Seasonal site (for 7 years).

    Why close the slides?

I agree with this. I keep mine open always at home. However, I do have a reason to close them. We had a freak hail storm here last year, with hail the size of softballs. (had to replace my car's sunroof, rear window, totally blown out, and new roof on house, along with garage doors) I couldn't believe it. It was incredible. I wouldn't have believed it had I not witnessed the devastation with my own two eyes! Fortunately I had a slide topper, which is chock full of indentations now, but did save the slide-out, which as I've said I always have out, still. So now I can understand closing it, but mine is still open. Haven't fixed the topper yet, since it is still doing its job so far.
  • Most seasonals that I see leave the slides open May to Oct. just don't use slide supports. When we were seasonal we always left the electric on, don't want to empty the fridge every week. Also leave the propane as said earlier so you have the backup for the fridge. Either tie down or close the awning, depending on what you have under it and if stuff can get wet. Hot water off and water off. Enjoy.
  • Why close the slides? millions of snow/ sunbirds leave them open for months even years. The trouble is below.
Take a close look at openings under, on frame rails etc. that critters would like to make home. Squirrels and Mice can wreak havoc anyplace they can get in. seal all openings under.. ..
  • I'd certainly leave the electric on. Also, if your refrigerator has an automatic function, I'd leave the propane on. That way, if there is a power problem, the refrigerator would still keep cool.
  • I shut off water and bring slide in. I make sure water heater is off and if I'm going to be gone for a while I drain water heater other wise the water stinks if left for long periods of time.
  • The slide is probably a good thing to bring in as mentioned. Though we never had a problem, some folks have had issues with little bugs finding their way in through the mini openings here and there along the seal. Most definitely the water and propane. I would not see any problem with leaving the electric on.
