Hi All,I am interested in who has purchases and installed this type of bed in your truck camper. Since there is no compartment under the bed, how and where did you hide the air pump and hoses? I have closets at each side of the head of the bed. I was thinking of putting the air pump in one of those then run the power to an outlet.On of my concerns is how much the tubes push out the top of the mattress, possibly making the bed too long to fit in it's space.Thanks!

One thing you need to be extremely cautious of when putting ANY air mattress in an RV---Long ago I had an air mattress in an older TC I had. I HATED having an air mattress.Why?* You have to remember to air it down completely if you're going over any mountain passes. If you don't it will pop.* You need to carry a spare air mattress in case it gets a leak you can't find...or... pops because you forgot to air it down going over a mountain pass. * You have to let air in/out to adjust firmness every time you go somewhere because you're camping at different elevations. And lastly...* I had a Sleep Number bed once (in my house) - I'll never own another one. It got a leak and Sleep Number's customer service was horrible. It never got replaced even after repeated calls, thier warranty was basically worthless.

I put a Select Number bed in my previous motorhome. The tubes only protrude about 2 inches past the top of the bed. I pushed the mattress up against the headboard and never had a problem with the tubes collapsing or not having enough air flow. I had closet/cabinets on each side of the bed, and as you suggested, I routed the air lines and pump into the bottom of the closet.Keep in mind that if you are boondocking without a generator, or don't have an outlet(near the bed)wired to an inverter, you won't be able to adjust the air pressure. Also, at higher elevations the air pressure would triple the normal setting. Mine never popped, but it worried me a couple of times when I realized how firm the mattress was when I parked for the night.

I have a sleep number in my house and I hate it. There is literally a hole that is created in between the two sides (air mattresses)So hubby and I, when we meet in the middle we sleep in a hole. It is horrible.

I have a power strip near the bed connected to a 2K inverter that would take care of the power. I didn't think of the pressure adjustments having to be made for different altitudes and air temperatures (I have to remember the temperature inside the RV will never be as consistent as what is at home).Maybe I should try one of those mattress toppers that also include a down pillow top first.

I have a sleep number bed in my house and I don't care for it for various reasons but my concern with it in a camper would be that is sleeps warm due to the memory foam. Good luck, let us know how it goes!

We also have one in our house and love it. My wife and I are on polar opposite ends of the firmness scale, so it was a really good solution for us. I am like a 90 (many back problems for me) and she is a 20. The only issue we have with it at the house is that because of the pressure difference, my side is way higher than her side, so I have to be careful about not falling off the edge and squishing her in the middle of the night ;) We are also considering an RV version, though the elevation change is a bit of a concern for us (especially my side being cranked up so high.)

We do have a Sleep Number at home and love it, I was just wondering about the install, which I have figured out, and how they do with the different temps/altitudes....

Select Comfort!!! YES!!!! We put a double size Select Comfort in our last TC a Northland 950 Polar. We immediately fell in love with the total and complete comfort over the standard mattress. We had to learn that every time we made major elevational changes we had to adjust the air setting. We use a very small inverter plugged into a 12 volt plug in the cab over. Works great. The next big hurdle we discovered was camping in realy cold weather the Select Comfort seemed colder than a standard mattress. We found a simple solution we put a really nice memory foam Mattress Topper "under" the Select Comfort Mattress and we now have been thoroughly enjoying great sleep for almost 10 years of TC'ing with Select Comfort. We encourage all to consider the the Select Comfort advantage.

I replaced my original mattress with a Sleep Number RV Radius King three years ago this month. It works perfectly and I would buy it again in a second.

If you like a sleep number bed, you might try an Aerobed - they are a long step up from an inflatable camp mat and have a lot going for them for TC use.

We've used them for visiting, camping, etc. it was perfectly natural to haul one into the TC.

A lot hate for the sleep number mattresses! Another opinion, we have one in our house and absolutely love it. Once we upgrade to a fifth wheel for our retirement cabin, it will have one. My first night home, my body immediately knows it is where it should be for the night! Can't help you with your configuration in the truck camper but wanted to let you know not everyone hates them. Perhaps you can go to one of their stores and try it out before buying.

I put a mattress topper from Costco in the camper and it works great, best sleep we ever got...
