Don't get hung up on 1 ton SRW trucks. They're pretty much impossible to find unless you are very lucky, or order one new. I don't know why manufacturers even bother making them. They should just have the half ton, 3/4 ton, and 1 ton dually. The difference between a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton SRW only involves a few parts, and most 3/4 tons are already rated at what a 1 ton SRW was rated for just a few years ago.
Yea, I absolutely cannot move to a DRW truck. I need to commute in this truck in the winter months and even my current truck is a tough squeeze for the parking behind my office. Plus I have an 800' long narrow and curvy driveway to plow which is hard enough with a SRW truck. I do also like to hit a Dunc's or bank drive thru every once in a while too. Not to mention, I have no justifiable need to get a DRW to carry a 1800lb camper 4-5 times a year.
I do have a test drive scheduled today so I'm bringing my measurements and a tape measure. Bottom of camper to bottom of sleeper is 46" on my unit so that's my biggest area of concern. I'm not understanding why the tailgate opening is a potential issue, my camper is 48.5" wide all the way to the tail and I'm certain the tailgate opening is much wider than that. I also have to measure the bed length because I think the Super Duty is 6 3/4' versus 6 1/2' my current truck is.
Also, hello to Rochester NY! My wife is from Roc and I am a 315er that went to school south of Roc. I know the city well.
Thanks again for info!
