Slide vs Tip Out Windows

Ours has both. The slide out ends have the slider windows. Everything else is a crank-out window. I think the crank-out windows do OK, I just wish they did them like they use back in the 1960's where the entire window had several smaller panes (like Venetian blinds) and the entire window would open up that way. The new trailers have only half the window that opens, or sometimes, even less.

The crank-out windows ARE nice when it rains. The slide windows are NOT!

The slide windows let in more air, maybe because they open truly half the size of the full window.

When the wind blows, they both do well equally.

We have tip out windows (frameless) all around except in slideout ends and we love them. Up in the NY Adirondacks we rarely use the ac and we leave the windows open all the time. We had severe rain storms where I've had to close roof vents even under vent covers to keep blowing rain spray out but I haven't had to close the windows.

Definitely on my must have for any trailer.

Most of the windows in our Freedom Express are slide but the one by the bed on the street side of the trailer is a tip out that also doubles as an emergency exit. Since our particular model doesn't have a vent over the main cabin in which I could have otherwise mounted a Fan-tastic vent fan I instead hang a twin blade, 3-spd reversible fan in front of the tip out window to provide a constant source of cooling air. We too rarely run the A/C, only when it's exceptionally hot & humid, and that would be the only time we'd close this window and not use the fan. It's so effective I even run it with an inverter those times we're without shore power. :B

For some reason KZ put three window types in my little trailer, one tip out, two horizontal sliders and one vertical slider. WHY? *shrug*

I do like the tip out kind, its the one I usually leave open along with a roof vent while I'm storing between outings over the summer. Sometimes the wind catches it and pulls the stick out of the frame and the window closes, but no big deal.

One of my widows is a slide, the others are two push outs and two crank outs. The push outs are also emergency exits.

The cranks are the worst, they are only 6 to 8 inches tall depending on the window size, they crank open about 9 inches. The push outs are better, the entire window opens and the bottom is about 12" out. However these have only two positions, fully open or fully closed. The slide opens one half the window space, but it get dirt in the track and is hard to move.

So like most TT owners we just adapt to what we have because it is not too likely the trailer elves will be changing the windows while we sleep.

If I has a choice I like the old time multi-pane crank opens already mentioned, otherwise I would probably go with the slides and keep the tracks cleaned.

Maybe because it doesn't rain a lot in the summer in Nevada, but I would MUCH rather have a sliding window. Mine has one slide in the bedroom, but the rest are crank outs. They definitely don't allow for as much of a cross breeze as sliding windows. I agree that the old style multi-pane jalousie windows did a better job than the current crank outs, but they didn't seal as well. Life is a trade off...

Thanks all for your comments. An internet search leaned toward not liking the tilt out. You all have convinced me to rethink.

Keep in mind, floor plan remains when all else is accepted or forgotten.

We have both but seldom open the vertical windows. We turn the Fantastic Fan on high and if we're home the door.
