Solenoid Question

I have a 2000 Lance 1010 and I want to wire it so it doesn't run my Battery down when the truck isn't running I was wondering what to use to do this? I tried to tie it in to the solenoid for my Plow but I'm not getting any power

Make sure the relay you have is a continuous duty.

I have to look this morning, thanks for the help

Make sure the relay you have is a continuous duty.
  • Okay so I have a 3 terminal solenoid switch in my shed I will install tomorrow. I have run an 8ga wire from the Lance 6 pin plug to the battery

I think the Plow needs to be plugged in for the solenoid I have it tied into now to work
  • If camper receptacle is wired into trucks trailer tow wiring (if you have on your truck) There would be a relay in engine bay-these are often not connected from factory but in glove box for end user to plug in. (edit but sounds like camper wiring must be tied into truck on another source?)

If your asking to add a constant duty solenoid, my simple diagram

The solenoid has 2 main lugs, battery in- battery out when solenoid engaged. A small lead thats hot with ignition turns solenoid on. Solenoid will ether be grounded thru case (3 wire) or have a separate ground lug (4 wire).
  • I'm still a little confused about wiring, Does anyone have a simple wiring diagram?

Most Fords are wired for the power to be cut off when ignition switch is turned off. It goes through a 30 amp relay.
If not this type of relay wired so the control is powered by hot in run only circuit. This is a four wire where you must connect one of the small posts to ground. It also comes in a three post version with coil connected to the metal mounting bracket.
    Tekonsha Battery switch
You may want to verify your rig before doing any purchasing!

I have a F250 and when the key is off no power to 7 pin connector
  • I used the 3 post Tekonsha and tapped the switched side for the windshield wiper circuit in the under hood fuse box. Although did it on a Dodge it might be similar for yours perhaps.

    Dodge continuous duty solenoid.
