I'm sorry to be the one that appreciates these threads. I have learned so much from folks that share experiences with all phases of RV'ing.
To the OP, thanks for sharing that info. I also like to have a little extra "cushion" when towing.
And the "LT" crowd, I hope to keep getting good information on options that are out there.
Happy Camping??
If it holds air and made out of rubber/carbon/polyester/steel wire/kevlar it always has a chance of going flat, blowing out or heck even just work properly.
Most folks don't worry about UNDER pressure or OVERLOADING which according to most of the tire industry is the MAIN causes of blowouts.
Truckers are most likely number one in fantastic blowouts.. They often can or will go for miles with a rooster tail of large and small debris flinging high into the air..
And yes I have witnessed trucker tire blowouts from behind.. Always makes me shake my head with stupid drivers that insist on driving lockstep in speed along side a big rig.. I personally don't wish to spend any more time close behind or right beside a trucker.. Those tires will ruin YOUR day!
STs do have their place, but sometimes trailer manufacturers skimp on the tire capacity which is the weak link for some.. This often turns folks against STs and turn to using LTs. They often offer anecdotal "evidence" that they have not had a blowout since.. And that is OK with me, BUT they often forget that the LT they went to most likely has a higher weight rating..
Myself, over 15yrs of towing a RV with STs and no blowouts so far.. If I get one I am not going to blame the manufacturer, nor the fact it is a ST.. Sometimes it just happens, LIVE WITH IT.
When a tire blows, fix things and move on, life is too short to blame things on others.
