ST trailer tire 75 mph rated

Huntindog, I sure hope those LT's were made in China. You just can't be too safe. :B

A 5th wheel that came with LT tires from the factory, how about that! Pretty cool.

I don't think people fully understand the difference between LT's made for trailer service and LT for Light Trucks.

Can you tell us how different one LT in made for trailer service vs a LT made for a truck ?

Your erroneously assuming a tire like the LT G614 RST is some how made different than a LT for a truck.

Bad memory and bad guess....I made my first commercial tow in '62 with a one ton '58 GMC pulling a new GN flatdeck trailer with 16" 8 ply bias ply truck tires delivering windows and doors to mobile home manufactures/dealers in KS/OK/TX/MO. All tires on all trailers then were bias ply truck tires or bias ply passenger car tires. There were no radials tires nor were trailers using ST tire yet.

Early RV trailers were small so passenger car tires worked great on even the largest 18'-22' RV trailer.

Rincon, I suspect we will never see any really good body of data gathered on all this, because as much as "we" here in consumer trailer world like to think about, and talk about all this, in the larger scheme of overall traffic and vehicles on the road, we're still a small minority. Makes it awful hard to gather good data.
I also agree that LT tires that have "an agressive tread design" are likely not a good candidate for trailer use. I believe Roger M has alluded to that as well, as I recall.
It seems the most appropriate LT's for trailer use are the rib pattern tread design, from what I gather.

I'm not sure anyone says "do not use" LT tires as replacements for your standard size trailer tires. More will tell you to use a tire designed for trailers, which in most cases means ST. There are not that many LT tires clearly made for trailer service, and its very confusing for most dealers and customers alike.

Personally, I would only say "do not use" LT tires clearly designed for ONLY trucks, which you wont easily find in trailer tire sizes anyway and have aggressive tread. This might be a moot point as well, but I don't think people fully understand the difference between LT's made for trailer service and LT for Light Trucks.

It seems the biggest argument is if OEM's who add the LT designation to their trailer tire offerings, is any better than those that say ST. Evidence to make any such claim does not exist.

Looking in the manual for instance for my 4star horse trailer, my Titan horse trailer, and my LoadMax equipment trailer, they all state that either ST or LT tires are appropriate fitment.

My rv also states either ST or LT in the manual .

A LT tire costs a bit more than a ST tire , but over the expected life of a tire it much cheaper ,almost 1/2 the cost . Why ? You dont need to replace the LT in 3 to 5 years .As opposed to a ST tire .

There could be any number of reasons why a manufacturers prefers to use LT tires on some of their models. To speculate why, is nothing more then guessing.

Again it is a moot point; because regardless of anyone's opinion, the trailer industries are not going to change from ST tires any time soon.
