Stabilizing: Wobble Stopper vs Platform vs Jack Stands

My TC is going to be used off truck for an extended period of time. I'm talking weeks. There is potential for higher winds and less movement would make DW more comfortable.

I was trying to look at previous threads, but of course, pics are missing from most. :(

Any way, I like the idea of going to Harbor Freight and picking up two sets of jack stands and they would be good for something else later. I'm wondering what to put under the stand though on gravel. I think 2 inch thick concrete squares could work to go under them.

I could also build/buy wobber stoppers. Time might be a factor since I need it ready in a couple of days.

Finally, there are other x type stands or sawhorses of different types.

What do you guys think?

  • I'm doing what Bigfoot recommends. Concrete blocks with 4x4 on top, across the front, near the wings, and across the back just in front of the sewer dump. With a sheet of 1/2" plywood on top of the 4x4. My jacks are down to just touching 2" thick concrete blocks. All sitting on gravel in my fenced off "Dad's Junkyard": Bigfoot, Montana, GoDevil, 5x14 utility trailer, storage barn, tomato patch, and assorted junk.
    I don't trust sawhorses.
  • Being on our first trip with our new TC I had the wobble stoppers from torklift installed and they have made the camper pretty steady for us , we use the camper off the truck for three weeks at a time the beach between our other trips. I like that they are mounted and store on the jacks no need to find a place to carry more stuff. just a new guys experience with wobble

  • Two stacks of pallets, only high enough to use sewer etc, Run down jacks to stabilize it without too much weight on them,
  • I would support the camper floor, with x-stands or similar, or even with the linked jack stands from jimh425's post.

The wobble stoppers add stability, but they leave all the weight on the jacks.

We had jack stands like the ones jimh425 linked. Ours were not very stable. There is a central nut that holds the jack screw. The nut is loosely inserted into the lower part of the stands. You can see that on the picture. As a result, the stands are rather wobbly (but they do support the weight well)

We glued the nuts in place, which was a big improvement.
  • From the pictures, your camper just like mine has big overhang.
For long time I had it off the truck with 4x6 beam under front wall and about 10" tall piece of 4x8 holding the beam in the distance that rear wings will stay close to the ground.
My sewer hose restrict that, but more often I am using Sewer Solution.
With heavy camper that all I needed for stabilization, but lately doing it again I noticed that floor in rear bathroom moves.
When on the truck the vanity stands on the floor, when on the jacks I see gap there.
My camper has aluminium frame, so that is disappointing, but now I am planning to get additional support for rear aluminium bumper.
