Super Springs

Anyone install super springs to help level out the back end when towing as well as carrying a lot of weight in the bed? I ordered the HD(2 leaf) and am hoping this was not overkill. I have an '09 F250 and the spring rates are softer than the older models to give a better ride so I need something to keep the truck level. WD bars are not enough. tks

  • Installed the HD Super springs last night. These things are stout. Raised my rear 1 1/2"(measured from increased distance of bottom of bumpstop to perch it hits when it bottoms out)BUT visually from outside measurements the rear is only 3/4" higher so it does not look high in the back. Conclusion is my rear end was sagging 3/4" unloaded to begin with so these super springs bring my ride height up to only 3/4" over OEM but 1 1/2" over where I was pre install (assuming front and rear are same ride height) but now when I load the TT and throw on the golf cart I should ride level.
  • I think there is enough on this subject to cover a bible. Also think the gentleman needs to goto an expert to get this resolved.

    Cheers and happy winter,

For some reason Dodge dropped the aux upper overload spring pack from the 3rd gen trucks. My 2wd truck needs help with anything over 1500 lbs.

I don't have the upper overload spring on my truck either. ARe you using the 1 or 2 leaf super springs set. tks

Mine were the two leaf 5k set which in '03 was the only option on my Dodge if I remember right.
My Supersprings didn't raise the back of my truck and still have a OEM ride when empty. I've replaced the rubbers twice at no cost to me.
My 11200 lb 5er adds around 2100-2300 lbs to the trucks rear axle.

I also pull a 16K tri axle GN stock trailer. With the Supersprings I can now load the trucks rear OEM tires to their limit without the headlight tree topping.
  • We also have an '09 F250 (SD). Excellent TV and love it. I can't possibly see the need for extra springs. It does sound like you're overloaded. What is being towed, what's in the truck and what are it's specs?

Our tongue weight is nearly 1K lbs and we put a lot of stuff in the 8' box when camping which has a 200 lb canopy sitting on top plus all the weight in the cab (DW, dog, tools, bottled water and more). No issue ever with rear end sag.

A trip to a scale would be worthwhile. I found our actual payload capacity to be quite a bit less than what is shown on the sticker.

Spring bars need to be properly adjusted to transfer weight back onto steer axle. I have our bars adjusted to close to 100% restoration of weight removed with TT hooked up. The ball on the WDH should be initially set at 1" higher than the TT coupler with TT level. It's normal for the rear end of a TV to sag somewhat. It's the front that matters.

I believe the more recent F250s have one less leaf spring. Ours has 4.
  • If WD bars are not enough then 1 of 2 things are wrong 1) your WD hitch is not set up properly which happens more often then not, or 2) your trailer tongue weight is way over the trucks rated capacity.
  • I had them on my last truck. They certainly do raise the rear and I would choose them over airbags. Only issue is a rough ride when not loaded. With a heavy truck camper they were the ticket. With a trailer, you may also want to consider Torklift stable loads instead.
  • IT sounds like you are trying to OVER LOAD it too much. A stock 250 /2500 in any class ..if it did not come with th eHD system then you may look at other reasons for your problems. Your WD units also may be too light for the job, Find the heavest weight bars youcan It may help,,,but also make sur your hitch is of a heavey enough size.

Best get to an expert to see what you need. That also may lead to structural damage down the road.

I have seen people try AIR bags, and over load springs and still get in trouble.
I have had Pick ups for over 40 years towing and TC, and if it ain't srong enough then change it out.
    Well thats my 2 p.

  • Lotsa 'super springs' posts in TC. Not sure if that helps.
