Super truss plus weight distributing hitch anti sway

Hi,
I have a Ford F-350 dually with palomino hs2911 truck camper and super hitch with 48" double tubed super truss. I haul a 6000 pound enclosed trailer with tongue weight of 600-900 pounds which I measure with a coupler scale and balance the load as needed. It seems to haul well but we are going to Moab with razors, etc. and I want to be safe on that 5000 mile round trip so I'm looking at anti sway and weight distribution hitch combos. Anyone running one with their super truss? Does the shank drag on the ground? Should I select a unit that is a bit higher capacity than the trailer tongue weight because there is weight behind the truck rear axle coming from the camper? What's a good brand to buy? Thanks

Yes, I use a weight distributing hitch with my Super Truss. I use an Eaz Lift brand, round bar style. I run my ball height slightly higher than normal, because my trailer is a land-yacht sized monster. (heavy tongue weight)

Ditto... Same set up, 10k 26' trailer with ~1,000lb tongue weight on 48" Supertruss.

Done it for years, never a problem.
  • I have pulled a 6000# TT with and without an old style Reese Dual Cam WD hitch for years . The Dual Cam is a bit more than simple sway control . It puts more pressure on the outside when going around a curve , similar to a sway bar . From my experience it's worth it . With this system , and there are others , the truck with TT handles as good or better than the truck alone .

With WD every manufacturer rates their hitch extension higher than without , there must be a reason .

I don't care much for the separate friction bars . There friction adjustment can change with the weather , rain , snow , sun , either giving you too much or too little control .

My 2 cents , take it for what it's worth .
  • I have 7 years towing with my truck and camper, first using a 6x12 trailer (4 years) and 5 years with an 8.5 x 20 trailer.
I owned both trailers during the 2012-2014 camping seasons and used each one several times those 3 years.

I don't use an anti-sway system. I have never seen the need for it.
  • I haul a 7000 pound horse trailer with a Huskey WD hitch with 1100# round bars on my 48" super truss, had to flip the adjustable mount to "fin" up to give me the ground clearance I wanted. never needed anti sway. I have 6 years of towing on my set up
  • My Super Truss is only 24" long but I use an Equalizer brand hitch. It has built in sway control.

  • I use a Harbor Freight 10k lb round bar WDH with no anti sway on my 20' enclosed trailer. Tongue weight is typically 600-1000 lbs.
