SuperSprings or StableLoads (upper)?

My truck currently has a pair of SuperSprings (5,000 pound model).
I won a set of Torklifts upper StableLoads at the truck camper club rally.

Looking at my truck springs, I would have to remove the SuperSprings in order to install the StableLoads.
(Also noted in the instructions for the StableLoads that they are not to be used with other spring additions to factory springs).

Would it be worth the effort remove the SuperSprings to try out the StableLoads? Or are StableLoads about the same as using SuperSprings?

  • I see no need for uppers at all on my Ram 3500/1181.
Got the lowers and love 'em.

No. Tork Lift makes two different stable loads, one for lower overload springs, and one for upper overload springs. He said he won the upper ones, so they will not work with a lower spring. Take a look at the picture on the Tork Lift site, you'll see what I mean.

For the original poster - it comes down to how often you carry the TC vs how often you drive the empty truck, and also how much your TC weighs. The Super Springs probably let you carry more weight without sagging, but the stable loads would probably be more comfortable when riding empty.

  • I had supersprings abd airbags on my 95 and stableloads on the 90. For me I like the stableloads.
  • StableLoads will preload your OEM springs sooner at the OEM spring rate. SuperSprings will give you additional spring rate.

If your ride is too harsh with the SuperSprings but you get too much sag with just the OEM springs, the StableLoads will compensate for that sag with the preload. I think unloaded ride will be better with StableLoads verses SuperSprings for this reason.

I don't remember how your SuperSprings sit on the OEM spring pack. If the OEM overloads still make contact with the frame perch pads you may be able leave the SuperSprings in place and install the StableLoads. SuperSprings come in one and two spring capacities and also have a preload adjustment, so you may be able to go down to one one spring or no SuperSpring once you try the StableLoads.
