Swingout brackets more stable?

Hello,
Looking at ordering a new camper and was thinking about the swingout bracket option. Might be good to get in case I decide to get a dually later on in life...but was also thinking that it might be more stable with the camper off the truck if I swing them out..wider stance...or are they more wobbly since they arent against the camper??

Thoughts, experience??

Thanks.
  • From a stability perspective, they are a wash.

More stable because they are wider.
Less stable due to the extra leverage they have on the camper frame.

Get them only if/when you need them.
  • I agree with others if you don't need them don't get them. I didn't have them on my present camper because I had a SRW at that time but I moved up to a dually now so had to put them on. They are less stabile than before and as stated they put more stress on the brackets on the camper.
  • Perfect! Thanks for all the help. I will for-go the brackets at this time...and save 300 bucks.
  • I have the brackets and don't need them so I took them off. It's more stable without them and the extension brackets apply more torque against the bolts where the corner brackets attach. Also the bit of play in the bracket also makes it less stable. I say buy them when you need them.
  • Not really looking to solve any problem..."yet". Just wondering if the brackets in the swung-out position would be better/worse or the same as just a normal jack. If its less stable, then I wouldn't get them...if its the same or even a little better I would consider getting them even though I don't "need" them right now. Thanks.
  • Wont make much difference, if any. But you are on the right track...if you might see a dually in the future than I would get them. Of course, they can always be added later if the need arises.
  • Since I have a dually, I have swingout brackets. I use additional stabilizing methods so your getting them won't be a problem solver.
