How to deploy dually swingout brackets?

Having searched the Happijac instructions that came with our camper, I find nothing re how to deploy the dually swingout brackets? Help please.
  • very good video from Atwood. Why do they keep saying that the front of the camper should be 4" higher than the rear ? Seems like that would put a strain on the jacks.
  • I push up on the bottom of the hinge pin and rotate 90 degrees. As you push up on the hinge pin, look at the top of the hinge pin, you will see the spline rise up and out of the slot, move the jack to the desired position and make sure the spline goes back into the slot.
I had my driver side jack swing out on me just after I installed them after I got the dually! Had to do some head scratching and reconfiguring so it won't happen again. But I didn't know to check that the spline and slot were properly aligned and seated.
It is dark and rainy so I can't go take pictures to make my explanation easier to understand.

  • I briefly looked when I stumbled on the Atwood video for one on the HJs but didnt see anything. Got camera? This question on useage comes up from time to time.
  • The swingout mechanism on our jacks is different than the Atwood, though the principle is the same: The locking mechanism is on the top of the hinge. Disengage the locking pin by inserting a screwdriver into a slot and lifting about half an inch. Then the swingout mechanism is free to deploy.

Always make sure that the castle nuts at the top are fully engaged.
  • Heres a video, these are Atwood but all similar. Bout half way at minute 9: is where it shows dually bracket, again at 11:30.

Basically you just swing out or in.
When loaded on truck they would be in travel position-swung close to truck, they will drop into slots to stay in that position. TO swing out- lift up on jack to pull out of slots then rotate outward. (do both sides). Then lowere jacks, As jack is lowered it will raise into matching slots to stay in out position for off loading. Ensure slots are aligned and will lock or interface before lifting. When off loading on truck would be opposite, once under camper raise jacks, the jack will (should) fall out of slot, swing over toward truck to lock, dropping into slots. Either getting in or of slots may require a bit of wiggling jacks.
edit-DONT put your finger in/near the slot as shown in video-it would hurt? a lot.
