Synthetic oil

That is my understanding. 5w-40 synthetic is the the recommend oil for any and all temperatures. 15w-40 conventional is only reccpmmended for operation above 0°F.

The video I posted above shows why conventional 15w-40 is not reccpmmended for temps below 0° F.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I'll admit I run synthetic (Quaker State) in our Edge with its 2.0 EcoBoost. My '00 F250 went 185,000 miles on semi-synthetic Motorcraft oil. The F-150 I had before that one ran 230,000 miles on the old fashioned stuff. I've put over 100,000 miles on quite a few vehicles using conventional oil. I use synthetics, they're good oils. But if money was an issue I wouldn't hesitate to use conventional oil where applicable.

(And I would never consider McDonalds good, certainly not "good enough." :-)

245 or 300 degrees? Thats not hot enough to cook French fries, I doubt it's hurting your bearings.

I honestly don't know at what temperature Dollar General Motor Oil cokes, varnishes or turns to sludge. That's why I said admittedly, it's more of a sleep aid than a necessity. Over at BITOG, UOA's show great results using less costly Motorcraft oil. We ate at Outback today when McDonalds would have been ok. It kind of like that. Those Mobil-1 bottles create quite the ambiance under the carport. :B

If I bought cheep tires and changed them at 20,000 miles or expensive tires at twice the price and change them at 40,000 miles there's really no difference in cost per mile. Now if you have blowouts and vehicle damage from the cheap tires they are costing you money.

But I don't think anyone is saying the cheaper oil is causing engine failures. They just feel better running the expensive oil. Has anyone mentioned getting rid of a vehicle because the engine failed due to an oil related issue?

And no I haven't, but then again I haven't run Dino Oil in over Forty years. When I did it was changed every 2500 to 3000 miles.
We all have choices and just because someone doesn't agree with your choice doesn't make them stupid. I may chose to drive a Corvette while you're happy driving a Chevette. Just think how boring it would be if we all dressed alike, lived in identical homes, drove identical cars, etc.
