Who said anything about tires?
The question here seems to be when is good enough, well, good enough?
Using your own analogy...then if the cheap tires are good enough,
then they are..well...good enough, right?
If I bought cheep tires and changed them at 20,000 miles or expensive tires at twice the price and change them at 40,000 miles there's really no difference in cost per mile. Now if you have blowouts and vehicle damage from the cheap tires they are costing you money.
But I don't think anyone is saying the cheaper oil is causing engine failures. They just feel better running the expensive oil. Has anyone mentioned getting rid of a vehicle because the engine failed due to an oil related issue?
