We have a free standing table for our U-shaped dinette. It was not really stable when we got it, with two folding legs. I added a third folding leg, and it is perfect. It is not as heavy duty as I would like, but it has survived 12 seasons of camping!

I just got the hinge and folding brace from my local hardware store. I had a piece of 1x3 maple to use as the leg. It wouldn't be too hard to make four folding legs out of wood if you wanted to do that. Most of the "legs" I've seen for sale specifically for folding tables are pretty lightweight and crappy.

The other "leg" I added was a simple 4x4 support to go under the unsupported edge of the table when it is lowered to make the bed. I am not a light person, so I was always paranoid about breaking the table when I got on the bed. That is a long, unsupported edge for that particle board to hold me up! I just cut a 4x4 to fit under there, and I don't have to worry about it.

Because of DH's size, finding a new camper without a free-standing dining table was supposed to be a deal breaker, until we found that most came with the double posts. Installing the L-shaped folding table legs to replace that hinged swing-down bracket nonsense tops this season's RV mod list.

We have a free standing dinette and chairs in our 26' no slide trailer. I did not like the legs supporting the table. Our Aussie likes laying under the table and the legs were in the way.
After living with it for one camping season I took off the legs and put a single support under it then fastened the other side to the wall of the trailer under the dining room window.
I put the leg in a position that the drop leaf still works.
I like it and it is much sturdier. The doggie likes to lay there OUT OF THE WAY LOL.

The standard removable pedestal legs are hopeless (just like "stabilizer" jacks, lol). We replaced our stock legs with Lance table legs. Very solid and look great. No holes in the floor to worry about either.

Did a mod on a previous TT and used an interlocking bracket mounted to the end of the table that attached to the wall along with a single folding leg. Worked well, but you want studs in the wall to screw the bracket to otherwise you may get some movement in the luan plywood. The bracket is a standard RV item.

When you make your table, make if from cedar. I had a friend make one for us out of cedar. It's about 2/3 lighter than the press wood table and is far stronger. Best of all we use ours outside and I never worry about it getting wet. Can't recall where I go the legs but they are very hard to find. This photo was shot before I sealed it.

I will say from personal experience that these legs are horrible. Jayco puts them in all the new trailers with removable tables. We got the old style folding legs and replaced this monstrosity.
