A little oil in the coolant is pretty common with all of the motors I disassembled. Once you take off the heads it is hard to keep oil out of the water jackets.
I agree with you on the trans. Ram has a history of mating under sized auto transmissions to the Cummins. Although, all of the HD auto transmissions look small next a 6R140, that thing is a beast.
Most of the gas engine I have seen have pretty much warn though the cross hatching by that amount of miles. The only ones that I have seen last longer were all diesels.
