Taking apart a stock internal Cummins 6.7L with 150k

Tear down of a stock internals 6.7L Cummins with 150k miles. It was used in as a work truck for most of those miles and then was put into a race truck with higher flowing injectors, dual pumps, race cam, and bigger turbo making 1,000 hp and many 10 second runs.

FYI, the bluing on the crank he mentions is normal due to heat treatment from the factory. Also, for those that don't know, cross hatching is the crisscrossing scratches you see in the cylinders made by honing the cylinder at the factory. Generally, these scratches will go away over time due to wear. If they are still clearly visible then that usually means the engine cylinders themselves still have plenty of life.

  • Enjoyed watching it... having said that I always get a laugh when I see a person lift and handle these tiny transmissions. Also the engine looked like it got some oil in the coolant. Also I've seen engines with over 500k miles that still had good cross hatches.
  • I'm surprised at how little carbon build up there is. That thing is amazingly clean.
