Taking camper off in RV parks issue?

After a lot of delays, I am looking at getting a truck camper and truck. Right now thinking in terms of Artic Fox or Lance, partly because they have the only nearby dealers, and 3/4 ton Duramax. Over the years I have come across a couple of RV parks that will not allow campers to be removed from trucks. I would, more often than not, want to. Have people found that to be a big probelm?

  • This summer we travelled from Alaska to Virginia Beach, VA and back. We removed the camper several times both in private and State/National parks. Never had a problem.
  • We've not had any issues, and always remove the TC. When considering a CG, we always ask just in case. So far no one has had that rule.
  • If not being able to take the camper off is a problem for you, stay somewhere else.

I can understand some private campgrounds' hesitancy to allow campers off the truck. Not everyone is conscientious enough to lower the camper and/or support it beyond the jacks. It's a liability if the camper tips over because a jack sinks in the soft ground or collapses.
  • Never has been an issue at any state park for me. If I stay more than 2 days TC comes off. Just lower jacks with no supports.
  • We are staying in a state park with the camper off the truck an supported under the camper by 2x4 an 4x4 along with the camper jacks ! No problems !

I think the answer to this question must lie in what type of camping one does. I have NEVER been to a campground that didn't allow me to remove my camper. All the campgrounds I stay in are either State or Federally run.

The ones where I saw this were all private, now that you mention it.
