As a former diesel owner who currently drives a gasser (and may go back to diesel someday, who knows?) I always keep an eye on fuel pricing; I noticed that here in Phoenix the cost difference between 87oct & #2 diesel is widening again, after narrowing a great deal a few months back.What really got my attention: a station along 44th Street has 87oct at $3.29/gal but wants $4.19/gal for #2; that's a $0.90 per gallon difference, the most I've noticed in quite a long time.How's the gap where you live? Still fairly tight or growing apart again?

It's not too bad here in Tucson. $3.21 for regular unleaded, $3.67 for #2.

That's much more reasonable (while still being absurd, LOL).Maybe that station on 44th is an aberration but it sure got my attention.

On the Olympic Peninsula in WA regular is $3.18 and diesel $3.87. This is more than a 20% difference and erases the MPG of a diesel vs. a gas engine.Unless you are towing something really heavy a diesel seems to make less sense, cost wise, each year.

Good point. In Oregon diesel tax is 5.2 cents more than gas. Lots of different reasons why fuel is priced different from city to city and state to state.

Amen to that. We live in Volusia County, Fl. which imposes the highest local option fuel tax in Florida (on top of state/federal taxes). And yet the county is crying they lack sufficient funds for road improvement projects. Wonder if they ever considered how many people might be buying their fuel out of county if possible to avoid paying the county tax?

All you migrating snowbirds might want to keep this in mind as you head South and your travel takes you along I-95 or I-4, or US 17.

BTW: the 40-50 cent/gal spread between gasoline and diesel seems to be holding here, despite the drop in price of both fuel types.
