I drive a F250 with the 6 speed and love it and am disappointed Ford no longer offers that option. My knees are getting old but hope I never have to give up on my manual transmissions, only one in my fleet of 7 vehicles is my wife's car.
I bought the F250 cheap because of the combination of 6 speed, standard cab and 2wd. Local car dealer said I would have paid nearly double if it had auto, extended cab and 4wd, but I got exactly what I wanted. Of course the truck I sold when I bought this one, I got about half for also, but I had pretty much worn it out so didn't care that much.
I have always believed the difference in the towing between auto and manual is the auto company assuming the average driver doesn't know how to start with a heavy load and will burn out the clutch. With the low gearing in the low and reverse gear it is easy to maneuver heavy loads. Have had observers surprised when they found out it was a manual.
