Oops , Wasn't inferring that one type transmission had more power gain or loss over another type.
What I meant is that as an old hot rodder I'm not willing to loose hp and almost 200ft lbs of torque because of wanting a stick shift In the same model dodge truck
automatic 385 horsepower 850 lb-ft of torque
manual 350 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque
As far as thinking the derated Cummins woul be insufficient for my needs, I am happy with my 250hp and 500 ft lbs that I now have. 660 ft-lbs would be a terrific gain but 800+ would be better.

No worries, after pouring over all the numbers and gear/tranny combos it's hard not to get all Tim Taylor "more power" Aisin cummins HO 30k towing "grunt grunt" but the reality is if I were pushing those upper limits I'd move up to a 5500 CC or even an MDT.
