I got stuck in stop-and-go traffic on the Mass Turnpike for 3-1/2 hours one time. We'd move a few feet every 30-60 seconds, so all I could do was stand on the clutch the whole time.
There was no choice in the matter. It was either move 4' when everyone else moved 4', or move 4' when everyone else moved 4'. I tried sitting there and letting a gap develop, but people from other lanes would instantly fill any gap longer than a car, and the people behind me would then try to switch lanes to get around me, causing even more gridlock. No exits for miles.
I couldn't walk for a week after that trip, and my knee was sore for months. My next truck was an automatic...
