Not debating manual vs automatic plenty of threads on that already, however for me personally I like a manual and considering I'm a dodge fan they still offer one. But as I look at the numbers payload...

Ford and Ram still have that option. I shift in to low range without locking the hubs on steep roads and let the automatic run through its gears in low range to give me better control. I know I will not be going faster than 25 mph on that stretch, so the top end speed is not needed.
I usually look for the lower trim levels and add to them rather than pay for items that do not interest me. You will most likely need to order your truck because they will be hard to find that way on the lot.
