When I buy my truck, I'm only going to need 4000lb payload and 6000lb towing capacity, so the ASIN is overkill; however, it just looks like it's built for commercial use and *should* last longer.
Your observation is correct. From reading Ram forums, the general consensus is that the 68RFE(?) should last typical person the life of the truck being reliable under normal conditions but replacements would be needed. However, if you had to replace the Aisin, you were either doing something terribly wrong or was an odd ball case.
On the Ram Tradesman pickup models, the electric transfer case is a $245 option. I did not find which hubs are used on the manual transfer case verses the electric.
The tradesman with manual transfer case has the same disconnect front axle with live hubs as the electronic. All you are doing is changing the level for some solenoids and a switch. Wish it did have the manual hubs.
