Meh. All of my kids can drive a stick.
At work, all of my fleet is auto, from small SUV to 50,000 lb truck. I really like the transmission on the 2011 and 2012 F-350 and F-450, because I can select my gear. I can anticipate needs better than the ECM/TCM. My personal truck is ancient, with a manual. It originally had a 4 speed T-19, but after 290,000 miles, it was time to rebuild it. So I swapped in ... wait for it ... a ZF S5-47 5 speed overdrive. I am out of weight capacity, and DW wants a bigger camper. I suppose I will live just fine with a current model automatic, I don't think I will be as happy with a current generation diesel engine. At 329,600 miles now, still no major work done to my engine. The fuel system is starting to leak, but I guess even tubing can wear out. Probably less than a single truck payment to replace everything.
